Commercially sponsored & investigator initiated clinical trials for medical technologies are predominantly conducted to identify the safety and performance of devices and digital health in the treatment, prevention or diagnosis of disease. Clinical trials generate the evidence required for regulators and funders to introduce new technologies confidently into the market and ensure patient safety, often resulting in enhanced health outcomes for numerous patients.
To encourage stakeholders associated with medical device and digital health clinical trials to congregate and share knowledge in order to grow our NZ-based trials capability and enhance the lives of patients.
- Bring together multiple stakeholders involved in clinical trials to share expertise and experience. We will address the clinical trial marketplace, investigate opportunities and barriers for patients, clinicians, researchers, companies, and healthcare-funders as well as determine the importance of clinical trials in supporting NZ health outcomes and growing the economy.
- To explore the local clinical-trial ecosystem, identify gaps and understand the different pathways for medical technology trials compared to that for medicines.
- To give feedback and provide an opportunity for informed-consultation ahead of significant changes to local law around the NZ Therapeutic Goods Registration legislation and its impact on NZ based clinical trials.
- To better understand the value, quality and scope of technology clinical trials in providing data to support market-access both in the local market and world-wide.
